Green Tea Catechins Against COVID-19: Lower COVID-19 Morbidity and Mortality in Countries with Higher per capita Green Tea Consumption

چکیده

Background: Several vaccines are currently validated for COVID-19 prevention and mass vaccination has already been started in many countries. Nevertheless, it is likely that the development of an efficient therapy reduces severity/mortality would be still important a rather prolonged time, particular, due to new variants SARS-CoV-2. lines emerging evidence suggest green tea catechins such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate have direct anti-viral activity affect factors associated with severity. Objective: Considering major constituents tea, may expected countries higher per capita consumption less affected by COVID-19. This study assessed this possibility. Methods: Among population at least 3 million (n=134), those relatively high (above 150 g) identified (n=21); (ii) normalized values cases (morbidity) deaths (mortality) groups low were compared. Results: Striking differences morbidity mortality between ‘high’ ‘low’ found. The observed after adjustment onset disease. An analysis using multiple linear regression approach suggests associations present level individual Conclusions: Results study, taken together pharmacological evidence, can give valuable clues treatment/amelioration

Absorption and pharmacokinetics of green tea catechins in beagles.

The present study evaluates for the first time in dogs, the kinetics of green tea catechins and their metabolic forms in plasma and urine. Ten beagles were administered 173 mg (12.35 mg/kg body weight) of catechins as a green tea extract, in capsules. Blood samples were collected during 24 h after intake and urine samples were collected during the following periods of time: 0-2, 2-6, 6-8 and 8-...

Interactions of green tea catechins with organic anion-transporting polypeptides.

Organic anion-transporting polypeptides (OATPs) are multispecific transporters that mediate the uptake of numerous drugs and xenobiotics into cells. Here, we examined the effect of green tea (Camellia sinensis) catechins on the function of the four OATPs expressed in human enterocytes and hepatocytes. Uptake of the model substrate estrone-3-sulfate by cells expressing OATP1A2, OATP1B1, OATP1B3,...

Chemopreventive Potential of Green Tea Catechins in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which is a common malignancy worldwide, usually develops in a cirrhotic liver due to hepatitis virus infection. Metabolic syndrome, which is frequently complicated by obesity and diabetes mellitus, is also a critical risk factor for liver carcinogenesis. Green tea catechins (GTCs) may possess potent anticancer and chemopreventive properties for a number of differ...

Green tea (Camellia sinensis) catechins and vascular function.

The health benefits of green tea (Camellia sinensis) catechins are becoming increasingly recognised. Amongst the proposed benefits are the maintenance of endothelial function and vascular homeostasis and an associated reduction in atherogenesis and CVD risk. The mounting evidence for the influential effect of green tea catechins on vascular function from epidemiological, human intervention and ...

Antiviral effect of catechins in green tea on influenza virus.

Polyphenolic compound catechins ((-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), (-)-epicatechin gallate (ECG) and (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC)) from green tea were evaluated for their ability to inhibit influenza virus replication in cell culture and for potentially direct virucidal effect. Among the test compounds, the EGCG and ECG were found to be potent inhibitors of influenza virus replication in MDCK ...
